Helicos recognizes the critical role collaboration plays in scientific discovery and technological advancement. To foster collaborative activity and open communication, Helicos created the HeliSphere™ Technology Center (http://open.helicosbio.com/), an open access Web site for sharing Helicos data sets and bioinformatics software tools.
Helicos Datasets
The HeliSphere™ Technology Center showcases datasets containing millions of single molecule sequence reads from a variety of applications performed with the Helicos™ Genetic Analysis System.
- Caenorhabditis elegans whole genome resequencing data, highlighting the ability to obtain 27X coverage of the genome with only seven channels from a single run
- Digital gene expression (DGE) and transcriptome sequencing (RNA-Seq) data for human brain and liver tissue samples, demonstrating sensitivity to expression levels below one transcript per million
- Whole genome sequences of the microbes Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Rhodobacter sphaeroides, sequenced with consensus accuracies greater than 99.995% and showing virtually no sequence context bias

Open Source Project
The HeliSphere Technology Center is the gateway to Helicos’s open source project. It has the following features:
- Offers downloadable source code and software documentation
- Acts as a vehicle for communicating with collaborators and potential partners
- Supports “tarball” downloads of the source code
- Uses well known shared access tools, such as Wiki docs and Mailman mailing lists
- Will contain an open bug tracking system and will entertain patch submissions from developers
- Allows licensing of source code through the widely used free software license GPL (general public license) for general use and through a commercial license for corporate partners
Passwords to access this open source Web site are available to customers and qualified scientists upon request.
Check this site frequently! Data from a range of current Helicos projects will be posted on the HeliSphere Technology Center Web site regularly.
