Helicos BioSciences is building a universal genetic analysis tool for all the aspects of potentially fatal diseases to read the individual strands of DNA. The Institute for Systems Biology, ISB, will receive early access to the Helicos’ gene-sequencing technology for cancer research. Leroy Hood, ISB’s founder, will look at subtle changes in prostate cancer cells and at differences in single strands of DNA between normal and cancer cells.
